Scope
The ACM GoodIT conference seeks papers describing significant research
contributions related to the application of information technologies (IT) to social
good. Social good is typically defined as something that provides a benefit to the
general public. In this context, clean air and water, Internet connection, education,
and healthcare are all good examples of social goods. However, new media
innovations and the explosion of online communities have added new meaning to the
term. Social good is now about global citizens uniting to unlock the potential of
individuals, technology, and collaboration to create a positive societal impact.

Paper Submission
The papers should not exceed eleven (11) pages single-column, including figures,
tables, and references in the new ACM format
(https://cyprusconferences.org/goodit2022/index.php/authors/ ).
They must be original works and must not have been previously published.
At least one of the authors of all accepted papers must register and present the
work at the conference; otherwise, the paper will not be published in the
proceedings. All accepted and presented papers will be included in the conference
proceedings published in the ACM Digital Library.
In addition to a Main Track, the conference features 9 additional Special Tracks.

Journal Special Issues and Best Paper Award
Selected papers will be invited to submit an extended version to two special
journal issues:
• FGCS, Elsevier (https://www.sciencedirect.com/journal/future-generation-computer-systems)
• MDPI Sensors, where the theme of the special issue will be "Application of
Information Technology (IT) to Social Good"
(https://www.mdpi.com/journal/sensors/special_issues/topical_collection_good… ).
Specifically 5 papers will be invited free of charge and another 5 papers will get a
20% discount on the publication fees.
Furthermore, MDPI Sensors will sponsor a Best Paper Award with the amount of
400 CHF.
Work-in-Progress and PhD Track
Inside ACM GoodIT, the Work-in-Progress and PhD Track provides an opportunity to
showcase interesting new work that is still at an early stage. We encourage
practitioners and researchers to submit to the Work-in-Progress venue as it provides
a unique opportunity for sharing valuable ideas, eliciting feedback on early-stage
work, and fostering discussions and collaborations among colleagues. Moreover, this
track provides a platform for PhD students to present and receive feedback on their
ongoing research. Students at different stages of their research will have the
opportunity to present and discuss their research questions, goals, methods and
results. This is an opportunity to obtain guidance on various aspects of their research
from established researchers and other PhD students working in research areas
related to technologies for social good.

Position Summary
We invite applications from suitably qualified Senior Post-Doctoral Researchers to work on a multi-disciplinary project on Responsible Software Engineering (RSE).
People live with Algorithms, AI, Big Data, Ubiquitous and Pervasive Computing, and Decision-Support Systems. But we also live with news reports, direct experiences and concerns about scamming or phishing, about how our confidential/health records can be subject to cyber-attacks, and even about how our very on-line interactions may harm us (opening email attachments, neglecting a field in our on-line job application that automatically disqualifies us for the job). These sociotechnical systems play roles in how we live, search for information, organise, socialise, and work together. They have a strong presence in our lives, often without our knowledge, and they can impinge on how secure, trusting or comfortable we feel with the decisions we make and the (system-mediated) actions we take.
Although there is growing body of research on Software Ethics (e.g. ethical compliance, frameworks and disposition), the scope of our interest in this research project extends beyond the ethical. Arguably, people will only be able to take advantage of the social value of technologies like AI when trust and trustworthy practices align. With these opportunities and reservations in mind, this project focuses on Responsible Software Engineering, and the reflexive practices and values entailed in it, with a view to giving focussed attention to ‘representing and enriching lived experience, supported by software, and not bounded by it’.
Aligning ‘responsibility’ with ethical and societal concerns (concerns like unlawful discrimination and undermining democracy) foregrounds critical reflection on what it means to improve the state of the world through software engineering and practice, including how to (and ‘who’ to) judge whether one state of the world is better than another. Civic education can play an important role in answering these questions and in preparing future citizens to continue to answer them.
With these interests in mind, the RSE Project has been developed by Lero colleagues from a number of disciplinary backgrounds including: Software Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, Applied Psychology, Sociotechnical Systems, Information Systems, and Public Engagement. The project is organised around four challenges:
- To develop understanding(s) of reflexively responsible Software Engineering.
- To understand Responsible Software Engineering as an embedded socio-technical practice by assessing the current state of RSE practice in cutting-edge software development projects.
- To derive, develop and evaluate tools and practices for experiential practice-based understanding of Responsible Software Engineering.
- To specify the education needed for citizens to be able to act knowledgeably in modern IT society; an integral part of reflexive RSE, founded in trusting and trustworthy relationships.
We wish to appoint 2 Senior Post-Doctoral Researchers to work together full-time on this project for 30 months. Between them, the Senior Post-Doctoral Researchers will have the skills to deliver on the four challenges above. Core strengths in Software Engineering and Human Computer Interaction would be particularly valuable. However, we would welcome applications from researchers in cognate areas who make the case in their application for the relevance of their skills and experience to the project. Moreover, it would be helpful to us if candidates with, say, a strong Software background (Software Engineering, Information Systems, etc.) could demonstrate experience and/or interest in the complementary research area (e.g. HCI, Interaction Design, CSCW) and vice versa.
Applicants should have obtained their PhD in a relevant area and be able to demonstrate ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team.

The Interaction Group of the British Computer Society and the journal Interacting with Computers are pleased to announce a monthly online seminar series on research on human-computer interaction and user experience.
Seminars will be via Zoom on the last Monday of each month (apart from August), usually at 13:00 – 14:00 UK time (currently UTC + 1), but modulated to the time zone of the speaker.

What Next for UX Tools: from screens to smells, from sketch to code, supporting design for rich interactions
Every interaction with a digital device is set in some form of physical and human context, and yet the most commonly used tools for UX design are focused purely on the screen. Rather than being a scaffold to build better interfaces, wireframes can feel like the barriers in a cattle ranch, herding us towards a small range of design options, looking inwards towards the device rather than outwards towards our users. The situation is even more difficult when we want to design interactions that involve other senses, such as sound, smells, and touch; or new forms of interaction, such as flexible displays, autonomous cars, smart buildings, and digital fabrication. In this talk I’ll describe both some of my own personal journey and the InContext project that is thinking about more wholistic tools for design that incorporate rich context, multiple modalities, and end-to-end connections between design and development. The talk will outline both our own thinking and outcomes from a series of InContext workshops, most recently at CHI 2022. We do not have answers to all the open questions, but I will also demonstrate several early prototypes addressing different facets of design that are underrepresented in current generation design tools. Most important, I hope that this will open up a roadmap of ideas that others may also follow to create better tools for the next generation of UX designers and developers.

Talking with an Internet of Things conversational agent
Internet of things conversational agents (IoT-CAs) are making human– computer interactions ubiquitous. In this study, we experimentally examined the effects of IoT-CA use on face-to-face conversations between close partners. One hundred and thirty-six participants (68 close relationship dyads) participated in the experiment. We prepared an IoT chat environment and provided chat topics for each dyad. The dyads were randomly assigned into one of two IoT-CA use pattern groups (joint use: two persons using an IoT-CA together; individual use: one person using an IoT-CA alone) and three interaction conditions (no IoT-CA use; conversation content-relevant IoT-CA use; conversation content-irrelevant IoT-CA use). The results showed that compared with no IoT-CA use, IoT-CA use did not have negative effects on conversation experiences but produced feelings of greater closeness to the IoT-CA in the partners. Furthermore, joint IoT-CA use in the content-relevant condition (IoT-CA made comments relevant to interpersonal interactions) helped increase interpersonal self-disclosure.

evaluation of digitally mediated products for active ageing, senior's
citizen sense of belonging and perceived wellbeing.The COVID-19 pandemic
has been extremely challenging to address several research contexts and
suddenly the “Online Social Environments for Active Ageing” were started
to be perceived somewhat as the "new" environment.
Three big factors contribute – processual, social, individual – to
determine the technological environments evolution and its relationship
with the active aging. For sure the pandemic has generated a higher
awareness about their potential, and it is likely that they will no
longer be the same after the pandemic. Papers that report work that
nurtures a post-pandemic view, namely, case studies, reviews and
methodological proposals; pandemics/social confinement/ COVID-19; the
socio-techno-ethical dimensions associated to the adopted digitally
mediated strategies to overpass the boundaries of social distancing
measures; digital policy strategies for active aging; impact of
entrepreneur experiences are especially welcome.

HCSE is a bi-annual, single-track, working conference organized by the IFIP

HCSE 2022 welcomes contributions as technical full papers, late breaking
results, demonstrations and posters. All papers are peer-reviewed and selected
contributions will appear in the proceedings published by Springer in the LNCS
series.
In the present edition of HCSE 2022 we are particularly interested in studies
focused on multi-stakeholder concepts and how to cope with multi-stakeholders
taking into account not only micro perspective, but on the systemic change
level. This research area is central to the host of the current edition of the
conference, the Eindhoven University of Technology, Industrial Design, Systemic
Change group.
In addition, building on the activities carried out by the WG13.2 during the
workshop held at the INTERACT 2021 IFIP TC-13 conference, special consideration
will be given to issues related to “changing the context of use”, which has
significant impact on how to design and develop with a user-centered perspective
and how usage of these systems changed for example in the current pandemic
situation.
As in past editions, the focus of the working group is on user interface
properties (such as usability, ux, privacy, trust, security, reliability,
adaptability, among others) and how to design, develop and evaluate based on a
user-centered development process. We are interested in understanding how
different stakeholders and developers value diverse user interface properties
and how they manage conflicts between them (when one property might degrade the
value of another) on a systemic change level. Our aim is to cover a large set of
user interface properties and try to reveal their inner dependencies. We are
particularly interested in the development of theories, methods, tools and
approaches for dealing with multiple properties that should be taken into
account when developing interactive systems.
HCSE welcomes the following types of contributions:
* Technical full papers (up to 20 pages) should describe substantial research
contributions of novel work that has produced advanced results including
validation of results.
* Late-breaking results (up to 12 pages) are short papers that present work in
progress, new practice and experience reports containing good (and bad)
practices and/or recent practical evaluations of methods, techniques and tools.
* Demonstrations and posters (5–8 pages, plus poster design draft) should
present ongoing work and/or late-breaking results related to the use of
innovative tools and cutting-edge systems not described in other paper
submissions. Demonstration papers should provide description of tools including
user tasks and evidence of use to end-users. Demo submissions should summarize
the system’s significance and its performance and should either include
screenshots or link to an online-accessible resource. The poster design draft
should show the planned design and content of the poster that will be presented
at the conference. Industry contributions to demos and posters are particularly
welcome and highly encouraged.
SUBMISSIONS AND REVIEWING PROCESS
All contributions should be submitted via the EasyChair system
(https://easychair.org/my/conference?conf=hcse2022conference). All submissions
will be peer-reviewed for their topical relevance, originality, technical
contribution, and presentation quality by the members of the international
program committee.
Technical full papers and late-breaking results short papers will be reviewed
double-blind, demonstrations and posters single-blind. Authors must prepare
their submission files accordingly!
For poster submissions, both paper and poster design draft will be assessed for
review.
It will be possible for the program committee to suggest accepting submissions
in other than their original submission categories.
PRESENTATIONS
If we hold a physical conference, under the current circumstances, all accepted
submissions will be presented at the conference in technical sessions. It will
be possible for authors of accepted technical full papers and late-breaking
results short papers to give tool demos as well without submitting additional
demo papers.
The conference will NOT enable hybrid participation.
PROCEEDINGS
Accepted contributions must be formatted according to the guidelines of the
Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series of Springer
(http://www.springer.com/computer/lncs?SGWID=0-164-12-73062-0). Authors are
requested to prepare submissions as close as possible to final camera-ready
versions.

ECCE 2022 invites contributions from researchers and practitioners which address the broad spectrum of Cognitive Ergonomics challenges in the analysis, design, and evaluation of virtual and physical interactive systems as part of a rich conference program including keynote talks, paper presentation as well as a doctoral consortium. The 33rd ECCE conference will target state-of-the-art as well as emerging topics pertaining to cognitive ergonomics and its role in design processes, information presentation and visualization, human factors and simulation, prototyping, cross / extended reality, user interfaces development, evaluations, and emerging ethical issues.
The special theme of ECCE 2022 is: “Evaluating the Reality–Virtuality Continuum”.
ECCE 2022 will feature three great keynote speakers: Patrick Baudisch, Kristina Höök, and Sebastian Pannasch.
WORK IN PROGRESS PAPERS
We are delighted to announce the new "Work in Progress" track of ECCE 2022, which gives researchers the opportunity to present exciting new contributions for which the research work has not yet been fully completed. This means that, for example, papers can be published where only a basic prototype has been developed so far, only a preliminary user study or none at all has been conducted, or which outline concepts and prospects for planned research.

A full-time doctoral research position is open in co-supervision in the IIHM group (http://iihm.imag.fr) of LIG lab (https://www.liglab.fr), in Grenoble (France) and in the ESTIA-Recherche team (https://www.estia.fr/recherche), in Bidart (France). * Scientific Context
The student is expected to integrate both the IIHM and the ESTIA-Recherche research groups (around 18 months each).
The IIHM group is concerned with the design, implementation, and evaluation of interaction techniques that are effective, usable, and enjoyable. The group is present in the main Human-Computer Interaction conferences: CHI, UIST, AVI, Interact, EICS, etc. It has long-lasting connections to other research groups in France and abroad, and is well connected to the industry. IIHM is part of the LIG lab, which is equipped with the latest machines for physical fabrication of prototypes.
ESTIA-Recherche mobilizes multiple disciplines to address the concept of intelligent and empowering interfaces for the engineering of complex systems. The multidisciplinary team focuses on scientific, technological, and societal themes to respond to cross-functional projects. ESTIA-Recherche hence studies and designs Human-Human, Human-System, and System-System interactions to contribute to energy and digital transitions and to the evolution towards the industry of the future.
* Research Plan
The PhD’s objective is to imagine novel ways to interact with augmented objects that best leverages users’ expertise with the existing objects in their environment. The Internet of Things (IoT) started to replace our traditional objects, both personal (e.g., smart home) and professional (e.g., smart office), with connected objects including augmented capabilities. Users are already able to use voice or direct touch to interact with these objects. Yet, users already developed extensive expertise with their traditional objects’ current physical interfaces. The PhD student will explore how users’ expertise can transfer from the UI of traditional objects to novel remote UIs (deformable tangible interaction, or mid-air inputs for instance).
* Candidate
We seek candidates with profound interest in Human-Computer Interaction, strong motivation, and creativity. A successful candidate:
- Has a strong master’s degree in computer science or another area related to Human-Computer Interaction,
- Has excellent written and oral communication skills,
- Has excellent software and/or hardware skills.
Curiosity toward cognitive sciences, statistics, and fabrication are not mandatory, but are a plus.

OVERVIEW
The pandemic has forced us to re-think the ways we design and facilitate co-design. Activities once relying on in-person interaction, often mediated by physical artifacts (e.g. brainstorming cards, postITs, playing tokens), had to be quickly redesigned as virtual experiences – often with trade-offs involved. Can in-person and virtual workshops co-exist and complement each other?
We invite a diverse pool of participants, including technologists, educators, psychologists, and sociologists to share their experiences and reflect on how to bring together virtual and in-person co-design workshops. Through discussion and hands-on sessions with physical, digital, and hybrid co-design toolkits created by the organizers we aim to reflect on the following research questions:
• What are the challenges of transforming location, methods, and toolkits that are designed for in-person workshops into the digital?
• How the diverse affordances available in the physical and digital realms impact on the ability of co-design tools and methods to foster participants’ creativity, collaboration and learning skills.
• How does the virtual space influence the interaction between participants, e.g. virtual breakout rooms vs. different tables or corners in a real workshop room?
• How do workshop facilitators can to adapt to virtual and hybrid settings?
