The CS4Good special track provides a unique opportunity to explore ground-breaking research contributions addressing Citizen Science within the specific context of social good. Call for Proposals
We are pleased to invite proposals for workshops and tutorials to be
held in conjunction with the conference.
The goal of workshops is to provide a venue for presenting research on
focused topics of interest and an informal forum to discuss research
questions and challenges. Potential workshop topics should be related to
the general theme of the conference (“Where HCI meets AI”).
Tutorials are designed to provide fundamental knowledge and experience
on topics related to intelligent user interfaces, and the intersection
between Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Note: We encourage you to contact the chairs with your ideas
(workshops2025(a)iui.acm.org), and work together to prepare an exciting
proposal.
We encourage proposals for a wide range of workshop and tutorial formats
and activities, including but not limited to:

"Mini-conferences" on specialized topics; such workshops may have
their own paper submission and review processes.

Interactive formats to explore a certain topic during the workshop
(e.g., through breakout rooms); such workshops may have their own
paper submission and review process or target a report summarizing
the outcome of the interactive discussions.

"Late breaking work" meetings; such workshops usually have a lighter
review process (e.g. based on abstracts only).
*
"Hands-on" workshopsaround a specific problem or topic that may wish
to ask participants to submit a position statement.

"Project centric" workshopsthat may be closely related to the scope
of an existing large-scale (e.g. NSF, EU, etc. funded) project.

"Mini-competitions", challenges, or hackathons around selected
topics with individual or team participation.

Tutorials on a specific topic relevant to IUI; for example, methods
and approaches in HCI and/or AI, specific techniques or algorithms
to develop intelligent user interfaces, etc.
We invite submissions of proposals for full-day and half-day workshops
or tutorials. Proposals will be reviewed and evaluated by the workshop
and tutorial chairs.
Workshops with few submissions may be cancelled, shortened, merged with
other workshops, or otherwise restructured. The organizers of accepted
workshops and tutorials are responsible for producing a call for
participation and publicizing it, such as distributing the call to
relevant newsgroups and electronic mailing lists, and especially to
potential audiences from outside the IUI conference community. Workshop
and tutorial organizers will maintain their own website with information
about the workshop or tutorial and the ACM IUI 2025 website will refer
to this website. The workshop organizers will coordinate the paper
solicitation, collection, and review process. Workshops’ and tutorials’
summary will be included in the ACM Digital Library for ACM IUI 2025,
and we will separately publish a joint workshop proceedings for accepted
workshop submissions (through CEUR or similar).

Information Technology education, it is crucial to emphasize the significance of individuals
as key stakeholders and integral members of the wider community, while also recognizing the

We invite submissions that showcase the internet of sounds in performance
and sound installations. Proposed works should have a clear connection to
the conference and may relate to a technical paper or demo submission. We
particularly invite pieces that last 5-12 minutes, however, shorter and
longer performance proposals will be considered.

A proposal (compiled in a single pdf) should include:
· One-page project description
· One-page description of technical requirements
· Short program notes
· Artist bio(s)
· URL to any performance/installation audio or audio-visual documentation
(if available). The documentation link should use streaming-only services,

Please keep in mind the following when preparing performance and

Submission Guidelines:
Submitted papers must be original works and must not have been previously published.
All papers must clearly outline the research question, methodology, results, and implications for social good.
The papers should follow the new ACM format (https://authors.acm.org/proceedings/production-information/taps-production-…).
Main Track and Special Tracks Full Paper Submission should be a maximum of 12 pages;
Work-in-Progress papers should be a maximum of 8 pages;
Ph.D. track papers should be a maximum of 5
The indicated paper length includes references, tables, and figures. Documents with a length disproportionate to their contribution will be rejected.
These submissions will undergo a single-blind peer review process involving three evaluations each. Accepted papers will be included in the ACM Digital Library.
Each accepted paper must have at least one of its authors register for and physically present the work at the conference. Please consider that this is a condition to ensure the paper is included in the conference proceedings.

*Trustworthy User Modeling and Recommendation From Technical and Regulatory Perspectives*
Several efforts in Europe (e.g., the AI Act) and beyond have highlighted the significance of regulating AI technology, which has substantial implications for research and development in the areas of user modelling and recommender systems. It particularly requires actions to enhance the trust of various stakeholders in the processes and outcomes of corresponding R&D activities. This 90-minute tutorial will address these implications from both technical and regulatory perspectives. It will provide an interdisciplinary overview of recent regulations, with a specific focus on the core areas of (1) fairness and non-discrimination, (2) privacy and security, and (3) transparency and explainability. The tutorial will empower its audience with a deep understanding of the social and ethical consequences of their work, and of recent ethical guidelines and regulatory frameworks addressing the aforementioned dimensions. It will discuss relevant research and offer practical examples that address the aforementioned trustworthiness aspects. Furthermore, it will demonstrate how new regulations impact the daily work of the audience.

*Collaborative Team Recommendation for Skilled Users: Objectives, Techniques, and New Perspectives*
Collaborative team recommendation involves selecting users with certain skills to form a team who will, more likely than not, accomplish a complex task successfully. To automate the traditionally tedious and error-prone manual process of team formation, researchers from several scientific spheres have proposed methods to tackle the problem. In this tutorial, while providing a taxonomy of team recommendation works based on their algorithmic approaches to model skilled users in collaborative teams, we perform a comprehensive and hands-on study of the graph-based approaches that comprise the mainstream in this field, then cover the neural team recommenders as the cutting-edge class of approaches. Further, we provide unifying definitions, formulations, and evaluation schema. Last, we introduce details of training strategies, benchmarking datasets, and open-source tools, along with directions for future works.

*DECI: Designing Effective Conversational Interfaces*
The rise in popularity of conversational agents has enabled humans to interact with machines more naturally. There is a growing familiarity among people with conversational interactions mediated by technology due to the widespread use of mobile devices and messaging services. Over half the population on our planet has access to the Internet with ever-lowering barriers to accessibility. Though text modality is a dominant way to implement CUIs today, foundational AI models enable the implementation of multimodal CUIs using voice and visual modality. Adopting visual and auditory cues in addition to text-based responses provides an engaging user experience, specifically in complex scenarios like health guidance, and job interviewing, among others. This tutorial will present a review of state-of-the-art research and best practices on building and deploying multimodal CUIs and synthesize the open research challenges in supporting such CUIs. The tutorial will also showcase the benefits of employing novel conversational interfaces in the domains of human-AI decision-making, health and well-being, information retrieval, and crowd computing. We will discuss the potential of conversational interfaces in facilitating and mediating the interactions of people with AI systems.

*Mastering Mind and Movement. ACM UMAP 2024 Tutorial on Modeling Intelligent Psychomotor Systems (M3@ACM UMAP 2024)*
Research in the psychomotor field to provide personalization support to users represents several research challenges. The objective of the M3@ACM UMAP 2024 tutorial is to provide all level researchers of the UMAP community with methodologies, tools and techniques to model complex psychomotor behaviours that can later personalize learning support in realms like sports, physical education or for rehabilitation purposes, providing insights into data gathering from activities that involve human movements. In the M3 tutorial we will focus on how to take advantage of a learning analytics platform to support data engineering processes applied to the psychomotor domain, thus allowing for a practical and guided experience to the tutorial participants. Participants will engage in hands-on activities, recording specific movements and learning how to capture human body keypoints and model psychomotor learning.

Since 2000, the aim of the RJC has been to train future professional researchers in Human-Computer Interaction. This year they will take place from 30 September to 4 October at Village de Vacances du C.A.E.S. du C.N.R.S., Saint-Pierre-d'Oléron, France.

Interaction Substitution for Mobile Games Accessibility and Exergaming
Mobile device interaction is based on touchscreen usage, which poses significant accessibility barriers to people with upper extremity motor impairments. Existing solutions, provided as software services, enable access to most mobile device functionalities by substituting the default touchscreen interaction paradigm with simpler alternatives. This is commonly achieved by replacing direct touchscreen access to interface elements with their sequential traversal, until a target element is reached. However, sequential access is slower, and therefore not suited for apps having time-constrained interaction requirements, such as games. Furthermore, since common game development kits do not advertise their interface elements to the mobile operating system, in many cases alternative interaction paradigms cannot be used at all. To address these issues, we research novel interaction substitution approaches that rely on the direct mapping of alternative triggering actions to touchscreen interaction events, which are previously annotated on the interface of a target game. The proposed approach can be used as an accessibility layer to make existing and popular games accessible without directly intervening on their code. Within this framework, we explore the design space of the alternative triggering actions, proposing four input modalities that can be personalized to the specific user needs. Through a series of studies with representative users, we assess the accuracy, time overhead, workload and appreciation of the proposed alternative inputs, compared to non-mediated touchscreen access by people without disabilities. Finally, we explore the applicability of the approach to telerehabilitation by transforming existing mobile games into full-fledged exergames.
Dragan Ahmetovic is an associate professor at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Milan. His research focuses on assistive technologies designed to augment the cognitive capabilities of users and overcome barriers that limit their access to information and physical world. He investigates embodied sensing, knowledge retrieval, intelligent user interfaces and human-computer interaction, mediated by mobile and pervasive devices.
Dragan conducted his doctoral studies at EveryWare Lab of the University of Milan and received his Ph.D. in March 2015. Afterwards, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow and project scientist at the Cognitive Assistance Lab of Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, USA and as a postdoctoral researcher at the “S. Polin” Laboratory for Research and Experimentation with Novel Assistive Technologies for STEM at the University of Turin, Italy.
We are looking for candidates for one three-year PhD scholarship that will
be carried out at the at the Human Interfaces in Information Systems (HIIS)
Laboratory at CNR-ISTI
The fellowship is associated with the PhD school at the Computer Science
department of the University of Pisa in the area of Human Control in Daily
Environment Automations for Sustainability. The specific PhD topic will be
defined taking into account the background and the interests of the
candidate.
The HIIS Laboratory is a creative and multi-disciplinary interactive
technologies research laboratory, with deep and extensive research
collaborations, at national and international level, industrial partners,
and a supportive and inclusive working environment.
Pisa is a lively small town located in Tuscany, near the coast,
characterised by the presence of a rich research ecosystem (three
Universities and many research centres) very active in the ICT area. We are
therefore looking for deserving candidates. It is useful to have some
programming knowledge, interest and passion for the considered topics, and
to carry out research activities.

SCOPE
Exploring the development of our digital future requires a comprehensive examination of both
individual and societal consequences. Placing excessive emphasis on individual gains, a
common practice in individualistic societies for many years, has hindered the ability to grasp
the complex dynamics and forward-thinking mindset essential for the sustainability of a
contemporary society.
The evolving landscape of technology and the ongoing digital advancements have paved the
way for creative applications in the field of education, allowing us to adapt to the
ever-changing circumstances. When shaping a new approach for Information Systems and
Information Technology education, it is crucial to emphasize the significance of individuals
as key stakeholders and integral members of the wider community, while also recognizing the
pivotal role of collaboration.
In this track, we are searching for papers employing innovative technology and approaches to
educate the future generation towards world equality, collegiality, inclusion and a more
cooperative learning for a sustainable digital future. Values which are emphasized in the
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which overall aim towards creating a more equitable,
sustainable, and peaceful world.
This track is particularly relevant to IS/IT educators and those creative IT practitioners who
care about developing a sustainable digital future.

The ACM 4th International Conference on Information Technology for Social Good (GoodIT 2024) is a premier international forum for researchers, practitioners, and educators to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, and concerns, as well as practical challenges encountered and solutions adopted in the fields of data and technology for addressing Social Good and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. We welcome contributions that delve into the nexus of technology, data science, and social well-being, exploring how these domains interconnect and impact society.
Alongside the main track, the conference includes the Work-in-Progress and PhD Track. The Work-in-Progress Track is an excellent opportunity for practitioners and researchers to present early-stage work, offering a platform for sharing innovative ideas, receiving feedback, and fostering discussions and collaborations. The PhD Track is designed for PhD students at different stages of their research. It provides a valuable opportunity for these students to present and refine their research under the guidance of experienced researchers.

Main Track and Special Tracks Full Paper Submission should be a maximum of 12 pages;
Work-in-Progress papers should be a maximum of 8 pages;

These submissions will undergo a single-blind peer review process involving three evaluations each. Accepted papers will be included in the ACM Digital Library.

ACM UMAP – User Modeling, Adaptation and Personalization – is the premier international conference for researchers and practitioners working on systems that adapt to individual users, to groups of users, and that collect, represent, and model user information. ACM UMAP is the successor to the biennial User Modeling (UM) and Adaptive Hypermedia and Adaptive Web-based Systems (AH) conferences that were merged in 2009. It is sponsored by ACM SIGCHI and SIGWEB, and organized with User Modeling Inc. as the Steering Committee. Proceedings are published by ACM and part of the ACM Digital Library.
ACM UMAP 2024 is organized as an in-presence event, with online attendance support only during workshops and tutorials (i.e., the main conference will be run fully in-presence). Only workshops and tutorials will be streamed.
ACM UMAP 2024’s organizers seek to foster an accessible and inclusive conference. We recognize that attendees have differing abilities to pay, and have instituted a tiered pricing program to accommodate different financial needs.

Faccio seguito al mio messaggio di circa un anno fa per invitare nuovamente
chi di voi non l'avesse già fatto a rinnovare la propria *iscrizione ad ACM
SIGCHI*.
E' davvero importante dare massima visibilità a livello internazionale a
una comunità scientifica attiva e dinamica come la nostra. Per questo
motivo vi esorto *fare iscrivere anche tutti i nostri studenti di dottorato*,
che pagano una quota simbolica e che rappresentano il futuro dell'HCI
italiana. Un modo per farli sentire parte attiva di questa comunità sin da
subito.
Quest'anno questo mio appello è particolarmente sentito, perché siamo
prossimi alle elezioni del *SIGCHI 2024 EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE*, che si
apriranno ad Aprile e termineranno a Maggio/Giugno 2024 e che vedono la
candidatura dell'attuale *Presidente Neha Kumar e di Luigi De Russis, in
qualità di Executive Vice President* (i due nominativi “running as a team”,
vanno votati insieme).
Penso sia superfluo sottolineare l'importanza del ruolo di Executive VIce
President affidato a un membro della nostra comunità, che negli anni scorsi
ha dato grande prova di sensibilità verso le iniziative portate avanti dai
nostri gruppi di ricerca, suggerendo di volta in volta strategie e
strumenti che SIGCHI mette a disposizione per favorirne il successo. E'

(EICS 2024)
Augmented and mixed reality (AR/MR) are found very promising. Even handheld
displays, including smartphones and tablets, can provide a wide and low
budget access to AR/MR. However, current research and applications in this
area faces many challenges (e.g., suitable interaction techniques, better
experience, navigation in MR environments, high cross-device UX) which limit
the application in real-world activities. Targeting these challenges, our
workshop will provide a platform for researchers, developers, and
professionals from academia, industry, and arts, to discuss issues and
define novel interaction paradigms, user interfaces, 3D visualizations, and
application for cross-device AR/MR.
Workshop Topics
The workshop will be dedicated to observations, concepts, approaches,
techniques, development, and practice that allow understanding,
facilitating, and increasing the advancements of AR/MR applications. Topics
of interest for position paper submission include, but are not limited to:

The position papers (4-8 pages) must be written in English and submitted in
PDF format to the organizers in EasyChair
(https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=xp2), using the Springer LNCS
template

The submissions will be reviewed based on workshop relevance, academic
rigor, creativity, innovation, and applicability.
The extended version of workshop papers will be published in a Springer LNCS
book series proceeding. We will also produce a special issue of a journal
that addresses the workshop topic in which selected accepted position papers
will be invited to publish their extended work.
At least one author per accepted position paper is required to register for
the workshop.
The workshop will be held in synchronous mode. Each accepted paper will
feature a short presentation. At the workshop the positions will be grouped
into discussion themes, that are intended to be interactively explored,
resulting in research agendas and a draft vision for future joined
elaboration. The workshop attendees will also be encouraged to showcase
their work during the main conference Poster session.
