We welcome contributions that delve into the nexus of technology, data science, and social well-being, exploring how these domains interconnect and impact society. Alongside the main track, the conference includes the Work-in-Progress and PhD Track. The Work-in-Progress Track is an excellent opportunity for practitioners and researchers to present early-stage work, offering a platform for sharing innovative ideas, receiving feedback, and fostering discussions and collaborations. CFP: EICS 2024 Workshop: XP2: Experience 2.0 and Beyond – Engineering Cross Devices and Multiple Realities

CALL FOR PAPERS Experience 2.0 and Beyond – Engineering Cross Devices and Multiple Realities http://hciv.de/xp2/ June 25, 2024, Cagliari, Italy In conjunction with The 16th ACM SIGCHI Symposium on Engineering Interactive Computing Systems (EICS 2024) Augmented and mixed reality (AR/MR) are found very promising. Even handheld displays, including smartphones and tablets, can provide a wide and low budget access to AR/MR. However, current research and applications in this area faces many challenges (e.g., suitable interaction techniques, better experience, navigation in MR environments, high cross-device UX) which limit the application in real-world activities. Targeting these challenges, our workshop will provide a platform for researchers, developers, and professionals from academia, industry, and arts, to discuss issues and define novel interaction paradigms, user interfaces, 3D visualizations, and application for cross-device AR/MR. Workshop Topics The workshop will be dedicated to observations, concepts, approaches, techniques, development, and practice that allow understanding, facilitating, and increasing the advancements of AR/MR applications. Topics of interest for position paper submission include, but are not limited to: AR/MR applications for handheld devices and head-mounted displays User interface design for AR/MR applications in handheld devices and head-mounted displays New interaction techniques and modalities for AR/MR 3D Visualization for AR/MR applications Cross-device frameworks for AR/MR User experience in AR/MR Navigation in AR/MR Methodologies, frameworks, concepts, and tool support for cross-device AR/MR Evaluation and user studies Case studies and best practices Translation between senses Multimodal interactive art Keynote Speaker: Professor Ernest Edmonds Submission The position papers (4-8 pages) must be written in English and submitted in PDF format to the organizers in EasyChair (https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=xp2), using the Springer LNCS template (https://www.springer.com/gp/computer-science/lncs/conference-proceedings-gu…). The submissions will be reviewed based on workshop relevance, academic rigor, creativity, innovation, and applicability. The extended version of workshop papers will be published in a Springer LNCS book series proceeding. We will also produce a special issue of a journal that addresses the workshop topic in which selected accepted position papers will be invited to publish their extended work. At least one author per accepted position paper is required to register for the workshop. The workshop will be held in synchronous mode. Each accepted paper will feature a short presentation. At the workshop the positions will be grouped into discussion themes, that are intended to be interactively explored, resulting in research agendas and a draft vision for future joined elaboration. The objective of the III.Lab is to develop fundamentally new interaction approaches in the context of challenging contextual conditions ("Challenging Contexts"). Special topics of the III. Lab are Intelligent Interaction Artifacts and Environments, Human-Centered Automation ("Human in the Loop"), Next Generation Human Centered Design Methods and Tools, Societal Interfaces and Hybrid Futures. Abstract and Topics Following the successful series of PATCH workshops, PATCH 2024 will be again the meeting point between state-of-the-art cultural heritage research and personalization – using any kind of technology, while focusing on ubiquitous and adaptive scenarios, to enhance the personal experience in cultural heritage sites. The workshop is aimed at bringing together, physically and/or virtually, researchers and practitioners who are working on various aspects of cultural heritage and are interested in exploring the potential of state of the art mobile technology (onsite as well as online) to enhance the CH visit experience. The expected result of the workshop is a sharing and discussing novel ideas and creating a multidisciplinary research agenda that will inform future research directions and hopefully, forge some research collaborations. Motivation Cultural heritage (CH) has traditionally been a privileged area for personalization research, as highlighted by the many H2020 calls on this topic. Visitors come to cultural heritage sites willing to experience and learn new things, usually without a clear idea of what to expect. CH sites are typically rich in objects and information; much more than the visitor can absorb during the limited time of a visit. Cultural Heritage exploration and fruition are central aspects to value the richness of the territory and the history of our countries. The research on this topic is very active and continuously expanding towards new topics, such as the integration of cultural and natural heritage exploration, the extension to novel interaction means (e.g., haptic user interfaces and IoT), ambient intelligence, etc. We invite cultural heritage professionals and researchers to join us to discuss findings and trends on personalisation of cultural heritage in the broadest sense, from online and remote cultural access to onsite visit, from individuals to groups, from tangible to virtual and robotic mediation. 26th ACM International Conference on Multimodal Interaction (4-8 Nov 2024) Dear colleague, The deadline for paper submissions for ICMI 2024 is around the corner. https://icmi.acm.org/2024/call-for-papers/ https://new.precisionconference.com/submissions/icmi24a The 26th International Conference on Multimodal Interaction (ICMI 2024) will be held in San José, Costa Rica. ICMI is the premier international forum that brings together multimodal artificial intelligence (AI) and social interaction research. Multimodal AI encompasses technical challenges in machine learning and computational modeling such as representations, fusion, data, and systems. The study of social interactions encompasses both human-human interactions and human-computer interactions. A unique aspect of ICMI is its multidisciplinary nature which values both scientific discoveries and technical modelling achievements, with an eye towards impactful applications for the good of people and society. Novelty will be assessed along two dimensions: scientific novelty and technical novelty. Accepted papers at ICMI 2024 will need to be novel along one of the two dimensions: * Scientific Novelty: Papers should bring new scientific knowledge about human social interactions, including human-computer interactions. For example, discovering new behavioral markers that are predictive of mental health or how new behavioral patterns relate to children’s interactions during learning. It is the responsibility of the authors to perform a proper literature review and clearly discuss the novelty in the scientific discoveries made in their paper. * Technical Novelty: Papers should propose novelty in their computational approach for recognizing, generating or modeling multimodal data. Examples include: novelty in the learning and prediction algorithms, in the neural architecture, or in the data representation. Novelty can also be associated with new usages of an existing approach. Commitment to ethical conduct is required and submissions must adhere to ethical standards in particular when human-derived data are employed. Authors are encouraged to read the ACM Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct (https://ethics.acm.org/). ICMI 2024 conference theme: The theme of this year’s ICMI conference revolves around “Equitability and environmental sustainability in multimodal interaction technologies.” The focus is on exploring how multimodal systems and multimodal interactive applications can serve as tools to bridge the digital divide, particularly in underserved communities and countries, with a specific emphasis on those in Latin America and the Caribbean. The 2020 pandemic has left its mark and unveiled the real state of the art in the integration of digital technologies as an aid to the development of educational processes and, as well, on the entity of the digital divide; it has also unveiled the basis of the existing relationships between learning ecosystems, political power and society at large. Overcoming the present transmissive model, sometimes referred to for the specifies of its organization as the school-factory model, would seem to call for a transition to smart learning ecosystems in which learning processes are expected to become competence-based and foster the “learning by being” [3], in which physical spaces are increasingly characterized by their affordances and functionality as well as becoming phygital and interconnected, in which learning processes are designed with increasing awareness having as aim the achievement of the wellbeing of all the actors of such processes, as well as that of the society that, in turn, feel fully co-responsible for the formation of young people, also as proactive inhabitants of a world that they should respect in all its components, also to preserve its state of health. A transition that cannot avoid to take into due consideration the growing pervasiveness of Artificial Intelligences and the need that young people have to learn to tame and filter them, strong in the acquired skills that will still make them inimitable and unique in their potential to critically design and innovate. This special issue dedicated to “Smart learning ecosystems beyond the 2030s” is also the result of a debate that is taking place within IAALDE (International Alliance to Advance Learning in the Digital Era) [4] and which had an initial public discussion at the open debate held on occasion of SLERD 2023 [5] to which took part representatives of various associations such as APSCE – Asia Pacific Society for Computers in Education, ASLERD – Association for Smart Learning Ecosystem and Regional Development, GCSCE – Global Chinese Society for Computers in Education, L@S – ACM`s Learning at Scale, SoLar – Society for Learning Analytics Research. The purpose of the special issue, therefore, in addition to collecting the contributions of those who participated in the debate, is to broaden the discussion to scholars and practitioners who are engaged in the development of future learning ecosystems and who would like to contribute with and share their own vision. one-year research fellowship on human and artificial trajectories in Milan

Applications are invited for a research fellowship (/Assegno di Ricerca/) on "Multisensory analysis of human and artificial trajectories" at the Music Informatics Laboratory (LIM - https://www.lim.di.unimi.it/) of the /Università degli Studi di Milano/. The position is funded by the Italian research funding programme PRIN 2022. The successful applicant will be part of the project MAHATMA "Multiscale Analysis of Human and Artificial Trajectories: Models and Applications" (principal investigator: Davide Rocchesso <https://www.unimi.it/it/ugov/person/davide-rocchesso>). The appointment term is one year. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to contribute to experimental research and modeling of multisensory representations of trajectories at different scales in interactive contexts, exploiting the diversity of the senses and of the motor abilities. From services suggesting music or movies to personal assistants proactively supporting us in complex decision-making tasks. As these technologies continue to shape our everyday experiences, it becomes imperative to ensure that the internal mechanisms guiding these algorithms are transparent and comprehensible. The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) recognizes the users' right to explanation when confronted with intelligent systems, highlighting the significance of this aspect. Regrettably, current research often prioritizes the maximization of personalization strategy effectiveness, such as recommendation accuracy, at the expense of model explainability. To address this concern, the workshop aims to provide a platform for in-depth discussions on challenges, problems, and innovative research approaches in the field. The workshop will specifically focus on investigating the role of transparency and explainability in recent methodologies for constructing user models and developing personalized and adaptive systems. By bringing together researchers and practitioners, the workshop aims to foster collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the development of novel solutions.
