The deadline to apply for the CAiSE 2024 PhD Award is March 1st 2024. The conditions to
apply are:
• having participated as an author in a previous CAiSE Doctoral Consortium or at a main
CAiSE Event: either the main conference, the CAiSE Forum, EMMSAD, or BPMDS;
• having successfully defended the PhD thesis in the last two years (i.e., since January 2022).
The application must be submitted electronically to the PhD Awards track of CAiSE 2024 via
EasyChair <https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=caise2024> . The application must be
a single PDF file containing:
• a short cover letter that includes the list of PhD committee members,
• a support letter from the thesis advisor,
• the candidate's defended PhD thesis,
• the candidate’s CV.
ABOUT THE PHD AWARD
The CAiSE PhD Award 2024 is granted annually to an outstanding recent PhD thesis in the
field of Information Systems Engineering.
The award is co-sponsored by the CAiSE Steering Committee and Springer. It consists of a
certificate, free full registration (5 days) to the next two editions of the CAiSE conference,
and a book voucher for a free selection worth EUR 500 from Springer’s printed books
collection. In addition, the selected thesis will be recommended for publication as a
monograph in the LNBIP series published by Springer, provided that Springer’s publication
conditions are met.
The PhD theses submitted for the award will be reviewed by a standing committee of senior
members selected from the CAiSE Advisory Committee, the CAiSE Steering Committee, and
the CAiSE Program Committee.

We are delighted to inform you that ICMI 2024 will be hosted in Latin America, specifically Costa Rica. The International Conference on Multimodal Interaction (ICMI) is the premier global platform for multidisciplinary research about multimodal human-human and human-computer interaction, interfaces, and system development. We extend an invitation to teams for the submission of proposals for the following components:

Workshops
=========
ICMI has established a tradition of hosting workshops concurrently with the main conference to facilitate discourse on new research, technologies, social science models, and applications. Recent workshops include themes like Media Analytics for Societal Trends, International Workshop on Automated Assessment of Pain (AAP), Face and Gesture Analysis for Health Informatics, Generation and Evaluation of Non-verbal Behaviour for Embodied Agents, Bridging Social Sciences and AI for Understanding Child Behavior, and more.
Interested parties are invited to submit a 3-page workshop proposal for evaluation. Workshops may span half or a full day, with accepted papers indexed by ACM Digital Library in an adjunct proceeding and a brief workshop summary published in the main conference proceedings. Special Sessions are vital in exploring emerging topics within multimodal interaction, contributing significantly to this year's conference program. We invite proposals to enrich the conference's diversity and provide valuable insights into the overarching theme, "Equitability and Environmental Sustainability in Multimodal Interaction Technologies." Interested teams are requested to submit the following:
- Title of the special session: the title is designed to appeal to the ICMI community and be self-explanatory.
- Aims and scope, elucidating why the ICMI community should engage with this session.
- Tentative Speakers, comprising a list of potential contributing authors with provisional presentation titles. Special sessions typically include 4 to 6 peer-reviewed papers.
- Organizers and Bios are emphasizing the relevance and experience of the speakers.

Grand Challenge

The ICMI community is keen on identifying optimal algorithms and their failure modes, which are crucial for developing systems capable of reliably interpreting human-human communication or responding to human input. We invite the ICMI community to define and address scientific Grand Challenges in our field, offering perspectives over the next five years as a collective. The ICMI Multimodal Grand Challenges aim to inspire innovative ideas and foster future collaborative endeavors in tasks such as analysis, synthesis, and interaction.
To participate, submit a 5-page proposal for expert evaluation, considering originality, ambition, feasibility, and implementation plans. Accepted proposals will be published in the conference's main proceedings. The Grand Challenge submission deadline is February 5th, 2024. Overview
------------
Recent developments in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and meta-design
challenge the understanding of the concept of “end user”.
The 8th edition of this workshop aims to critically differentiate,
dissect, and deepen the roles, experiences, and demands of end users by
inviting contributions from different perspectives.
The workshop invites contributions to explore the following fundamental
issues:
- Re-conceptualizing the multi-faceted roles that end users can play.
- Investigating how end users are evolving into active participants in
the design and development through frameworks (such as meta-design) that
encourage creation, modification, and evolution in individual and group
activities.
- Understanding the skills and literacies (e.g., computational fluency)
that end users need to acquire to be successful contributors (e.g.,
education, after-school clubs, etc.).
- Envisioning future scenarios and possibilities for end user roles and
experiences in the context of emerging technologies and cultural changes.
- Understanding the design trade-offs associated with balancing the
potential value of end-user contributions with the necessary effort to
ensure that end users will be motivated to contribute over long periods
of time.
Participants from academia, industry, and user communities are invited
to share their ideas, insights, and experiences to increase our
collective understanding and approach towards end users in the digital age.
Topics of discussion may include (but will not be limited to):
- Analysis of the use and historical development of the concept of “end
user”
- Can meta-design frameworks facilitate and empower end users in
becoming designers, shaping and adapting systems to their needs?
- What are the major responsibilities for end users in "end-user
development” and/versus "end-user software engineering"?
- If computational fluency is widely achieved by humans in the digital
age — how will this change the concept of "end user" and “learning with
digital tools”?
- How can the division between professional developers and end users be
designed and supported as collaborative interactions rather than a rigid
separation?
- How do we scale up user participation from individuals to groups to
communities?
- In which contexts are end users the drivers of the innovation?
- Which other frameworks and environments in AI exist in addition to
Large Language Models (LLMs) for supporting end users?
- How does the role of end users change in the era of LLMs?
- Which additional learning demands occur that empower end users to
assess LLM possibilities and limits?
- Success stories and failures (e.g., empirical studies) involving or
analyzing end users as active participants in sociotechnical systems in
different domains (education, workplace, at home, leisure, etc.).

The 32nd International Conference on User Modeling, Adaptation, and Personalization (ACM UMAP 2024) is the premier international conference for researchers and practitioners working on systems that adapt to individual users or groups of users, and that collect, represent, and model user information. ACM UMAP 2024 is sponsored by ACM SIGCHI<https://sigchi.org/> and SIGWEB<https://www.sigweb.org/>. User Modeling Inc.<https://um.org/>, as the core Steering Committee, oversees the conference organization. ACM UMAP operates under the ACM Conference Code of Conduct<https://www.acm.org/about-acm/policy-against-harassment>. The proceedings, published by ACM, will be part of the ACM Digital Library.
ACM UMAP 2024 invites Late-Breaking Results (LBR) papers as well as Demonstrations (demos) of innovative UMAP-based systems (including research prototypes). The topics for these submissions are the same as the ones included in the Call for Full and Short Papers<https://www.um.org/umap2024/call-for-full-and-short-papers/>. However, their scope and timing is different. In particular, although short papers (from the main track) and the LBR papers of this call have the same maximum length, LBR papers are expected to present innovative ideas that are being explored and have already shown some promising results. It is also a dissemination channel for new research directions. Mature results which have already gone through experimental validation are more suitable for the general call, either as a full or short paper. Thus, rejected papers from the main track are not expected to be a valuable contribution as an LBR paper unless their contents are revised to address the scope of this track. Note also that LBR papers are to be presented physically during the conference in a poster format, allowing for more informal discussions on the ideas shared. Demos are intended to present systems that have been used to achieve the research outcomes presented as full and short papers. Thus, we highly recommend authors of accepted full and short papers to also prepare a submission for a demo of their system to be showcased at the conference in the LBR and Demo session.

LBRs are research-in-progress that must contain original and unpublished accounts of innovative research ideas, preliminary results, industry showcases, and system prototypes, addressing both the theory and practice of UMAP. In addition, papers introducing recently started research projects or summarizing project results are welcome as well.
We encourage researchers and practitioners to submit late-breaking work as it provides a unique opportunity for sharing valuable ideas, eliciting useful feedback on early-stage work, and fostering discussions and collaborations among colleagues.
In case that papers rejected in the main track (i.e. submitted as full or short papers) are submitted to this track, they should be revised not only to take into account the comments made to help improve the paper, but to fulfill the scope of the LBR, which emphasizes novelty of ideas. This is also valid for papers that have been recommended as an LBR when rejected in the main track.

* Proceedings *. Publication in ACM UMAP 2024 adjunct proceedings.
* Presentation * . Physically presented as a demo plus as a poster during the conference.
* Description *. Demos will showcase research prototypes and commercially available products in a dedicated session. Demo submissions must be based on an implemented and tested system that pursues one or more innovative ideas in the interest areas of the conference.
Demonstrations are an excellent and exciting way to showcase implementations and get valuable feedback from the community, especially for those papers that have been presented in the main track. Each demo submission must make clear which aspects of the system will be demonstrated, and how these will be demonstrated on-site as well as online.
To better identify the value of demos, we also encourage authors to submit a pointer to a screencast (max. 5 minutes on Vimeo or YouTube) or any external material related to the demo (e.g., shared code on GitHub).
*Non-Anonymity.* Submissions will be reviewed single-masked (i.e., authors’ names should be included in the papers) thus there is no need to be anonymized before submission.

* Accessibility.* Authors are strongly encouraged to provide “alt text” (alternative text) for floats (images, tables, etc.) in their content so that readers with disabilities can be given descriptive information for these floats that are important to the work. ** Review Process & Camera-ready Submission **
* Review * Submissions will be reviewed by at least two independent reviewers. They will be assessed based on their originality and novelty, potential contribution to the research field, potential impact in particular use cases, and the usefulness of presented experiences, as well as their overall readability. Papers that exceed the page limits or do not adhere to the formatting guidelines will be returned without review.
The ACM Code of Ethics<https://ethics.acm.org/> gives the UMAP program committee the right to (desk-)reject papers that perpetuate harmful stereotypes, employ unethical research practices, or uncritically present outcomes/implications that clearly disadvantage minority communities. Further, reviewers will be explicitly asked to consider whether the research was conducted in compliance with professional ethical standards and applicable regulatory guidelines. Failure to do so could lead to a (desk-)rejection.
*Camera-ready Information.* Accepted papers will be subject to further revision to meet the requirements of the camera-ready format required by ACM. We strongly recommend the usage of LaTeX/Overleaf for the camera-ready papers to minimize the extent of reformatting. Users of the Word template must use either the version for Microsoft Word for Windows, Macintosh Office 2011, or Macintosh Office 2016 (other formats such as Open Office, etc., are not admitted) for the camera-ready submission to avoid incompatibility issues.
Instructions for preparing the camera-ready versions of accepted papers will be provided after acceptance. This might include instructions to prepare a video of the accepted contribution. Camera-ready versions of accepted papers will be later submitted using ACM’s new production platform<https://www.acm.org/publications/proceedings-template> where authors will be able to review PDF and HTML output formats before publication.
** Registration and Presentation Policy **
Each accepted paper must be accompanied by a distinct full author registration, completed by the early registration date cut-off. Each accepted paper must be presented in person to be included in the conference adjunct proceedings, published by ACM and available via the ACM Digital Library. The official publication date is when the proceedings are made available in the ACM Digital Library. This date may be up to two weeks before the first day of UMAP 2024. The official publication date affects the deadline for any patent filings related to published work.
During the conference, all categories will be presented at the poster reception, in the form of a poster and/or a software demonstration following poster format. This form of presentation will provide presenters with an opportunity to obtain direct feedback about their work from a wide audience during the conference.

Doctoral students are invited to apply for presenting their research to experienced scholars who will provide constructive feedback and advice. Students should consider participating in the DC if they are at least one year away from completing their dissertation at the time of the event, but after having settled on a research area or dissertation topic.
This forum will provide doctoral students with an opportunity to:
* Present and discuss their research ideas to experienced scholars in a supportive, formative, and yet critical environment.
* Explore and develop their research interests under the guidance of distinguished researchers from the field who will provide constructive feedback and advice.
* Explore career pathways available after completing their doctoral degree.
* Network and build collaborations with other members of the community.
Students are asked to submit a brief proposal outlining their doctoral research (see detailed requirements below), which will be evaluated by the doctoral consortium committee. Good quality applications will be selected for presentation at a DC session as part of the conference. Each student with an accepted submission will be assigned a mentor who will provide feedback on the student’s work. A mentoring session will take place during the conference, and the DC students are expected to attend.

Each proposal should be a single PDF document, with three required components: (i) a recommendation letter, (ii) a description of your doctoral path, (iii) and a curriculum vitae. If you are unable to obtain a letter of recommendation from your dissertation advisor, please include a short explanation. Specifically, for each component, please consider the following instructions:
1. Letter of Recommendation (from your primary dissertation advisor, in any format):
* Describe your interaction with the student and your assessment of the quality of their work. Explain how the ACM UMAP 2024 doctoral consortium would benefit this student at this point in their doctoral program, as well as the contributions you expect the student to make to the group.
* The DC targets students who have a clear idea of their research plans and have started their research but have not yet executed a majority of their research. Please explain the structure of your student’s program and their expected level of progress by July 2024.
* Recall that students who are unable to obtain a letter of recommendation from their dissertation advisor (or the equivalent) should instead include a short explanation and a description of where the student is in their doctoral progress and the anticipated timeline.

Research description (6 pages at most plus additional pages for references; figures, tables, proofs, appendixes, acknowledgments, and any other content count toward the page limit): using a single-column manuscript formatted according to the guidelines discussed below, please include the following:

ACAIN 2024: AI meets Computational Neuroscience and Cognitive Science
The ACAIN 2024 symposium and course is an interdisciplinary event featuring
leading scientists from AI and Neuroscience, providing a special
opportunity to learn about cutting-edge research in the fields of AI,
Neuroscience, Neuroscience-Inspired AI, Human-Level AI, and Cognitive
Science.
The 4th Advanced Course and Symposium on Artificial Intelligence &
Neuroscience (ACAIN) is a full-immersion four-day Course and Symposium in
Tuscany on cutting-edge advances in Artificial Intelligence and
Neuroscience with lectures delivered by world-renowned experts. The Course
provides a stimulating environment for academics, early career researchers,
Post-Docs, PhD students and industry leaders. Participants will also have
the chance to present their results with oral talks or posters, and to
interact with their colleagues, in a convivial and productive environment.
Two days of keynote talks and oral presentations, the ACAIN Symposium,
(September 24-25), will be preceded by lectures of leading scientists, the
ACAIN Course, (September 22-23).
Bringing together AI and neuroscience promises to yield benefits for both
fields. The future impact and progress in both AI and Neuroscience will
strongly depend on continuous synergy, exchange, collaboration and
efficient cooperation between the two research communities. These are the
goals of the International Course and Symposium - ACAIN 2024, which is
aimed both at AI experts with interests in Neuroscience and at
neuroscientists with an interest in AI. ACAIN 2024 accepts rigorous
research that promotes and fosters multidisciplinary interactions between
artificial intelligence and neuroscience.
The Advanced Course is suited for scholars, academics, early career
researchers, Post-Docs, PhD students and industry leaders.
The Event (Course and Symposium) will involve a total of 36-40 hours of

ACM GOODIT Conference Call for Special Tracks Proposals

Scope
GoodIT 2024 will feature special tracks whose aim is to focus on a specific topic of interest related to the overall scope of the conference.
We solicit proposals for special tracks to be held within the main conference and whose publications will be included in conference proceedings. Tracks proposals can focus on any contemporary themes that highlight social good aspects in the design, implementation, deployment, securing, and evaluation of IT technologies.
Special Track Proposal Format
A special track proposal must contain the following information:
Title of the special track
The names of the organizers (indicatively, two) with affiliations, contact information, and a single paragraph of a brief bio.
A short description of the scope and topics of the track (max 1/2 page) and a brief explanation of: (1) why the topic is timely and important; (2) why the topic is related to the conference’s main theme; (3) why the track may attract a significant number of submissions of good quality.
Indication if a journal special issue is associated with the track, possibly with information on the process of selecting papers.
The plan to disseminate the call for papers of the special track for achieving a reasonable number of paper submissions (a list of emailing lists will help).
An outline of the foreseen reviewing process to ensure the scientific quality of the accepted papers including a tentative list of program committee members.
A draft call for papers (max 1 page).
Selection of Special Tracks
Accepted Special Tracks will be curated by the Special Track Chairs, possibly involving other members of the conference’s organizing committee, and possibly discussing details with the Track Proposers.
Publication
Papers submitted to each particular track have to satisfy the same criteria as for the main conference. They must be original works and must not have been previously published. They have to be peer-reviewed by the track’s Program Committee (at least three reviews per submitted paper are required). The final version of papers must follow the formatting instructions of the main conference. At least one of the authors of all accepted papers must register and present the work at the conference on site; otherwise, the paper will not be published in the proceedings. All accepted and presented papers will be included in the conference proceedings published in ACM Digital Library. The special track may provide an option for publishing the extended versions of selected papers in a special issue of a journal.
Special Track Proposal Submission Guidelines
The proposal should be submitted as a single PDF file to the special track chairs (see below) via email to: ombretta.gaggi(a)unipd.it and jochen.meyer(a)offis.de. The subject of the e-mail must be: “GoodIT 2024 – special track proposal”. The special tracks chairs may ask proposers for supplying additional information during the review period.

International Conference on Advanced Visual Interfaces (AVI)
Since 1992, AVI has been a biennial appointment for a vast international community of experts with a broad range of backgrounds. Throughout three decades, the Conference has attracted leading researchers of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) from all over the world, offering a forum to present and disseminate new technological results, paradigms, and visions for HCI and user interfaces.
Because of advanced technology and new possibilities for user interaction, AVI has broadened the topics it covers, still keeping its primary focus on the conception, design, implementation, and evaluation of novel visual interfaces.

POSTER PAPERS
The AVI 2024 Poster Track provides researchers and practitioners with the opportunity of presenting contributions which are work-in-progress and obtaining precious feedback from their peers in an informal setting. Poster submissions must be up to 2 pages (with one additional page for references), not anonymized.
DEMO PAPERS
The demo track is intended to provide a forum to showcase innovative implementations, systems and technologies demonstrating new ideas about interactive visual interfaces. We are looking for implementations of novel and exciting concepts or systems related to the main topics of AVI.
We are especially keen to welcome innovative demonstrations from industry and startups that are closely aligned with the conference core themes. We encourage the emergent innovators interested to demonstrate their solutions even at an early stage of development to submit the papers to this call.
Demo papers must be up to 2 pages (with one additional page for references), not anonymized.
Demo submissions need to be complemented by a document that describes technical requirements (the template can be downloaded from the website<https://avi2024.dibris.unige.it/calls/posters-demos>). Please notice that:
· The committee reserves the right to reject proposals whose hardware and/or space requirements cannot be met by organizers (if you have any doubt please contact the demo chairs<mailto:avi2024demos@easychair.org> before submitting the paper). The organizers cannot provide any specific equipment (e.g., sound or lighting systems).
· In no case does a demonstration involve any remuneration from conference organizers.

ACM Conference on Intelligent User Interfaces (ACM IUI) 2024 is the 29th annual premiere venue, where researchers and practitioners will meet and discuss state-of-the-art advances at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). Ideal IUI submissions should address practical HCI challenges using machine intelligence and discuss both computational and human-centric aspects of such methodologies, techniques, and systems.
The theme for this year will be Resilience, covering a wide variety of topics, such as COVID-19 recovery, organizational cyber resilience, economic growth and stability, climate change recovery, intelligent user interface resilience, and similar. While we encourage submissions related to this theme, the scope of the conference is not limited to the theme only.

** Eligibility and Selection criteria **
Volunteer positions are competitive due to their limited availability. Applications are open to all undergraduate and postgraduate students interested in intelligent user interfaces and related areas. To join the team as a volunteer, you must be enrolled as a PhD, Masters, or full-time undergraduate student in a related program at the time of the conference, and have good written and spoken English communication skills.
Previous experience in conference organization is desired but not required, and the number of volunteers from each region, and institution, may be balanced to ensure broad participation. Underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply.
Students who have a Doctoral Consortium paper or other paper accepted are given priorities for SV positions. However, a limited number of SV positions are available for local students who are not presenting a paper at the conference.
** Responsibilities **
As a student volunteer, you are expected to
* provide up to 20 hours of service during the conference (max 4 hours a day)
* show up on time for their assigned tasks
* be responsible for assigned tasks
* be responsive to timely communication
* responsibilities include managing the registration desk, helping set up demo sessions, providing on-site support to the organizing committee, assisting speakers during presentations, supporting as virtual event moderators, providing session support to virtual attendees, and other required activities.

Who is eligible to apply?
You must be a SIGCHI member at the time of application to be eligible. Read about membership and how to sign up on the SIGCHI website. Please note, ACM membership and SIGCHI membership are not the same. You can check which one you have via MyACM.
We will consider no more than one presenter per submission. Also, we will consider no more than one student per advisor, per submission cycle. SUBMISSION AND EVALUATION CRITERIA
We will consider two different types of submissions:
- Regular papers will be up to 10 pages (excluding references) and will report original research on how cybersecurity and education can support Academia and Industry to reduce the gap between demand (workplace, recruitment) and supply (qualification, training);
- Extended Abstracts will be up to 4 pages (excluding references) and will report novel ideas about the application of the role of cybersecurity education in Academia and Industry.
Both types of submissions, if accepted, will be part of the workshop proceedings (CEUR-WS).

Overview
Since 2016, the year during which ASLERD together with other associations promoted the Timisoara Declaration - "Better learning for a better world - Through People-Centered Smart Learning Ecosystems" [1] - a number of happenings have impacted considerably the evolution of the learning ecosystems to the point that it is deemed necessary to revise the Timisoara Declaration and promote a reflection on the configuration that learning ecosystems may take in the future, well beyond 2030, i.e. the year indicated by Unesco to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals [2].
The 2020 pandemic has left its mark and unveiled the real state of the art in the integration of digital technologies as an aid to the development of educational processes and, as well, on the entity of the digital divide; it has also unveiled the basis of the existing relationships between learning ecosystems, political power and society at large.
Overcoming the present transmissive model, sometimes referred to for the specifies of its organization as the school-factory model, would seem to call for a transition to smart learning ecosystems in which learning processes are expected to become competence-based and foster the "learning by being" [3], in which physical spaces are increasingly characterized by their affordances and functionality as well as becoming phygital and interconnected, in which learning processes are designed with increasing awareness having as aim the achievement of the wellbeing of all the actors of such processes, as well as that of the society that, in turn, feel fully co-responsible for the formation of young people, also as proactive inhabitants of a world that they should respect in all its components, also to preserve its state of health. A transition that cannot avoid to take into due consideration the growing pervasiveness of Artificial Intelligences and the need that young people have to learn to tame and filter them, strong in the acquired skills that will still make them inimitable and unique in their potential to critically design and innovate.
This special issue dedicated to "Smart learning ecosystems beyond the 2030s" is also the result of a debate that is taking place within IAALDE (International Alliance to Advance Learning in the Digital Era) [4] and which had an initial public discussion at the open debate held on occasion of SLERD 2023 [5] to which took part representatives of various associations such as APSCE - Asia Pacific Society for Computers in Education, ASLERD - Association for Smart Learning Ecosystem and Regional Development, GCSCE - Global Chinese Society for Computers in Education, L@S - ACM`s Learning at Scale, SoLar - Society for Learning Analytics Research.
The purpose of the special issue, therefore, in addition to collecting the contributions of those who participated in the debate, is to broaden the discussion to scholars and practitioners who are engaged in the development of future learning ecosystems and who would like to contribute with and share their own vision.

Submission procedure
All submissions must be original and may not be under review by another publication.
The manuscripts should be submitted anonymized either in .doc or in .pdf format.
All papers will be blindly peer-reviewed by at least two reviewers. Prospective participants are invited to submit an 8-30-page paper (including authors’ information, abstract, all tables, figures, references, etc.).

The CAiSE Forum is a space within the CAiSE conference to present and discuss the new
exciting ideas and tools related to Information Systems Engineering. The Forum intends to
serve as an interactive platform, encourage potential authors to present emerging topics and
controversial positions, and demonstrate innovative systems, tools, and applications. The
Forum sessions at the CAiSE conference will facilitate the interaction, discussion, and
exchange of ideas among presenters and participants. Contributions to the CAiSE'24 Forum
are welcome to address any of the CAiSE'24 conference topics and, particularly, this year's
theme—Information Systems in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.
We invite two types of submissions:
• Visionary papers present innovative research projects, which are still at a relatively early
stage and do not necessarily include a full-scale validation. Visionary papers will be
presented as posters in the Forum.
• Demo papers describe innovative tools and prototypes that implement the results of
research efforts. The tools and prototypes will be presented as demos in the Forum,
accompanied by a poster.
Both visionary papers and demo papers must not exceed 8 pages in LNCS format.

PUBLICATION AND PRESENTATIONS
Accepted papers will be published by Springer in a CAISE Forum proceedings volume within
the Lecture Notes in Business Information Processing (LNBIP) series
(https://www.springer.com/series/7911). Authors should consult Springer's authors
guidelines and use their LaTeX or Word proceedings templates for the preparation of their
papers. Springer encourages authors to include their ORCIDs in their papers. In addition, the
corresponding author of each paper, acting on behalf of all of the authors of that paper,
must complete and sign a Consent-to-Publish form. The corresponding author signing the
copyright form should match the corresponding author marked on the paper. Once the files
have been sent to Springer, changes relating to the authorship of the papers cannot be made.
It is expected that at least one of the authors attends CAiSE'24, presents the poster/delivers
the demo, and interacts with the Forum participants. We also envision a short oral
presentation for all papers to attract participants to the posters.

The 32nd International Conference on User Modeling, Adaptation, and Personalization (ACM UMAP 2024) is the premier international conference for researchers and practitioners working on systems that adapt to individual users or groups of users, and that collect, represent, and model user information. The ACM UMAP 2024 Doctoral Consortium (DC) will take place as part of the conference. The DC provides an opportunity for doctoral students to explore and develop their research interests under the guidance of distinguished researchers and industry practitioners from the field.
Doctoral students are invited to apply for presenting their research to experienced scholars who will provide constructive feedback and advice. Students should consider participating in the DC if they are at least one year away from completing their dissertation at the time of the event, but after having settled on a research area or dissertation topic.
This forum will provide doctoral students with an opportunity to:
* Present and discuss their research ideas to experienced scholars in a supportive, formative, and yet critical environment.
* Explore and develop their research interests under the guidance of distinguished researchers from the field who will provide constructive feedback and advice.
* Explore career pathways available after completing their doctoral degree.
* Network and build collaborations with other members of the community.
Students are asked to submit a brief proposal outlining their doctoral research (see detailed requirements below), which will be evaluated by the doctoral consortium committee. Good quality applications will be selected for presentation at a DC session as part of the conference. Each student with an accepted submission will be assigned a mentor who will provide feedback on the student’s work. A mentoring session will take place during the conference, and the DC students are expected to attend.

DC students are strongly encouraged to provide “alt text” (alternative text) for floats (images, tables, etc.) in their content so that readers with disabilities can be given descriptive information for these floats that are important to the work. ** Registration and Presentation Policy **
Each accepted proposal in the doctoral consortium track must be accompanied by a distinct full author registration, completed by the doctoral student by the early registration date cut-off. Each accepted proposal must be presented in person in the doctoral consortium session to be included in the conference proceedings, published by ACM and available via the ACM Digital Library. The official publication date is when the proceedings are made available in the ACM Digital Library. This date may be up to two weeks before the first day of UMAP 2024. The official publication date affects the deadline for any patent filings related to published work.
** Financial Support **
ACM UMAP has a long history of supporting students who want to attend the conference. Doctoral students of the accepted DC proposals will have higher priority for the ACM UMAP grant applications. The International Conference on Web Engineering (ICWE) is the premier annual conference on Web Engineering and associated technologies. It covers different aspects of Web Engineering, including the design, creation, maintenance, operation, and usage of Web applications.
ICWE aims to bring together researchers and practitioners from various disciplines in academia and industry to tackle the emerging challenges in the engineering of Web applications, the problems and opportunities of its associated technologies, and the impact of those technologies on society and culture.

SUBMISSIONS TO THE RESEARCH TRACK
This call addresses research contributions in one of the following two categories:
- Full papers (15 pages, Springer LNCS format): mature, original research contributions. Reported results must be supported by some type of evaluation, and also include a justification about the choice/suitability of the evaluation method. In addition, evidence of use in practice and/or demonstration of scalability is regarded as a plus.
- Short papers (8 pages, Springer LNCS format): short papers presenting a discussion - analysis, criticism, proposal, vision, etc. - about relevant aspects of Web engineering topics. These papers are intended to generate discussions that promise potential for research that will impact Web Engineering in the coming years.

USE OF GENERATIVE AI
Authors should explicitly disclose the use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in their manuscripts when these tools are employed for more than just editing the author's text. This disclosure can be made through a statement placed at the end of the manuscript, preceding the References section.
If it comes to our notice that a submission utilizes large language models (LLMs) without clear disclosure, such papers will be subject to immediate desk rejection. However, if there is no usage of such technologies, no disclosure statement is required.

Designing for sustainability extends beyond merely reducing resource
consumption and waste. It encompasses environmental, social, and economic
dimensions while acknowledging their potential conflicts. Today, designers
need to anticipate the impact on future generations, and social equity and
justice between workers, while also considering financial performance. It
appears clear that focusing solely on individual behaviour change, without
considering workplace practices and reaching decision-makers, can only have
a limited influence. While interactive systems to support sustainability
have been proposed, it is crucial not to overlook the interactive systems
used by workers in this endeavor.
Beyond being mere tools, automation and AI systems must become work
partners collaborating with workers to enhance their performance by taking
over repetitive and tedious tasks. However, as these systems increasingly
handle high-level cognitive tasks, designing meaningful roles for workers
is even more challenging when designers already have to deal with known
issues such as complacency, deskilling, monitoring, and takeover
performances when automated systems reach their operational limits or fail.
Consequently, methods, tools, and processes need to be refined to ensure a
positive user experience and identify novel forms of human-automation
cooperation for sustainable workplaces.
THEME, SCOPE, AND FOCUS
The theme of HWID'24 emphasizes the insights into the relationship between
the sustainability of workplaces, the anticipatory potentials of design,
and how automation and AI may fit the picture. It calls for a workplace
design oriented towards sustainability, responsibility, and explainability.
Examples of relevant questions include:
- What does the very notion of design imply from the point of view of being
sustainable, responsible, and explainable, and how can these values be
embodied in workplaces?
- How to design environment-friendly and humane workplaces?
- What individualistic vs collectivistic frictions may emerge from
unethical practices, and how can design mitigate them?
- How to design workplaces ensuring social equity and well-being when we
deal with both biased humans and automated systems?
- How to identify, evaluate, and support the new UX interactional patterns
between workers and AI and maintain workers' efficiency and well-being?
- How can alternative forms of job design (e.g. job crafting) mitigate
conflicts between the pursuit of financial profit and the reduction of
companies’ impact on the environment? Can automation help?
Topics of interest include:
- Artificial Intelligence and Intelligence Augmentation in the workplace
- Collaborative robots
- Virtual Assistants
- Digital Twins
- Cyber-physical systems
- Automation for social equity and well-being
- User experience in workplaces and novel forms of human-computer

This working conference aims to answer these and more questions by
involving professionals working in academia, national labs, and industry
who are engaged in human work analysis and interaction design for
sustainable workplaces. We will discuss tools, procedures, and professional
competencies needed to face issues and opportunities provided by workplace
design's sustainable and automatization perspectives.

Communication Technology) that will be edited and published after the
conference (before the end of 2024).

*CFP for the 1st Workshop on Information Retrieval for Understudied Users
(IR4U2)*
Please join us at IR4U2, co-located with the 46th European Conference on
Information Retrieval (ECIR), which will take place 24th-28th March 2024 in
Glasgow, Scotland
Information Retrieval (IR) remains an active, fast-paced area of research.
Nevertheless, most advancements in this domain have primarily favored what
we might term 'conventional' users, such as English-speaking adults.
We envision IR4U2 as a forum to spotlight efforts that, while sparse,
consider diverse, and often understudied, user groups when designing,
developing, assessing, and deploying the IR technologies that directly
impact them.
Among these groups, we find, for example, older adults, young children and
adolescents, individuals afflicted by mental health disorders, users with
autism spectrum disorder (ASD), individuals with intellectual disabilities,
or those with specific learning needs.
We aim to
1.
Raise awareness about ongoing efforts focused on IR technologies
designed for and used by often understudied user groups;
2.
Identify challenges and open issues impacting this area of research;
3.
Ignite discussions to identify common frameworks for future research;
4.
Outline a general approach to facilitate research endeavors driven by
and at the service of specific user groups.
5.
Cross-fertilization and community-building by sharing lessons learned
gathered from research catering to different audiences by researchers and
(industry) practitioners across various disciplines.
IR4U2 will be a highly participatory, full-day, in-person workshop. This
will involve informal interactions, facilitated group work, and brief
presentations of accepted contributions. These contributions will help
construct a snapshot of the current works in this area.
Topics of interest include:

User modeling to enable IR and recommendation technologies tailored to
understudied populations.

Data collection and benchmark development of IR catering to understudied
populations.

IR applications targeting understudied populations.

UI/UX for search, recommender, and question-answering systems for
understudied populations.

IR-related technology (clustering, classification, text processing, text
complexity) and their impact on understudied populations.

Different perspectives of evaluation.

Design of the user interaction with IR systems.

Ethical issues associated with IR technologies for understudied users;
e.g., their right to be represented, acknowledged, have access, and be
served by existing and to-be-developed systems.
This is not an exhaustive list, as we are also interested in contributions
discussing challenges inherent to designing IR technology at the service of
understudied user groups–from the need for multidisciplinary,
multi-stakeholder collaborations to how to build datasets.
Submissions:
Peer-reviewed contributions. These include research papers presenting
empirical explorations, user studies, and/or new algorithms related to the
open problems listed in topics of interest, as well as position/vision
contributions discussing uses cases, challenges, and future research
directions. These contributions should be submitted on EasyChair (

12 (excluding references) formatted in CEURART’s single-column template.
Accepted contributions will be presented at the workshop and published in
workshop proceedings.
Editorially-reviewed contributions. To enable potential attendees to

already-published works, bring awareness to ongoing European projects in
this area, etc., we ask the submission of a short extended abstract. This
