*Based on popular demand, we have extended the submission deadline to

We invite researchers and assistive technologists to share their
perspectives related to challenges in designing accessible systems and
assistive technologies that consider the multidimensional and often complex
needs of users with multiple impairments.
Workshop date: 23rd October 2022 (via Zoom)
Historically, the accessibility community has focused on designing
assistive technologies and systems related to single categories of
impairments. While this approach is justifiable and contributes to the
advancement of the field, many researchers argue that designing
technologies for one impairment at a time contributes to an
oversimplification of disability and does not reflect the real-world
experiences of a significant number of users who live with multiple
impairments.
How can the accessibility field leverage theories and concepts from other
disciplines (e.g. disability studies, medical humanities, social work,
engineering, education) to support more appropriate and inclusive
technologies for users with complex needs?
How can future assistive technologies consider diverse sensory, cognitive,
and physical characteristics?
Please note that any prior experience with users with multiple impairments
is not a requirement for participating in this workshop. More information
about abstract submission and registration can be found here:

Deadline to submit your contribution: *30th September 2022*

More information
about abstract submission and registration can be found here:
https://www.mpdas-assets22.org/home
Deadline to submit your contribution: 15th September 2022
Looking forward to having you join us!

*IEEE Symposium on Visual Languages and Human-Centric Computing (VL/HCC)
2022*
From the beginning of the computer age, people have sought easier ways to
learn, express, and understand computational ideas. Whether this meant
moving from punch cards to textual languages, or command lines to graphical
UIs, the quest to make computation easier to express, manipulate, and
understand by a broader group of people is an ongoing challenge.
The IEEE Symposium on Visual Languages and Human-Centric Computing is the
premier international forum for research on this topic. Established in
1984, the mission of the conference is to support the design, theory,
application, and evaluation of computing technologies and languages for
programming, modeling, and communicating, which are easier to learn, use,
and understand by people.
The 2022 symposium is scheduled to take place September 12-16 in Rome,
Italy.
Our special emphasis for 2022 is *Human-Centric AI*. VL/HCC 2022 is 100%
Sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on Multimedia

Dear colleagues,
On behalf of the program committee team, I’d like to draw your attention to the upcoming Interaction 23<https://interaction23.ixda.org/> week to be held in Zurich from 25th February until 3d March 2023. Interaction 23 is a premier venue for interaction design practitioners, researchers, and educators to discuss emergent practice-based challenges, share best practices in the discipline, and call for a change through design. It is organized by the Interaction Design Association (IxDA).
This year’s CfP<https://interaction23.ixda.org/call-for-proposals> theme includes several topical areas highly relevant to HCI research community: decentralization by design, supporting decision-making practices, creating new work experiences, and lowering environmental impact of technologies.
Check-out Interactions 23 call for proposals below and submit an idea for a talk, a workshop or a panel by 4th September 2022. Submissions are in a very lightweight format!
Interaction 23 is a great way to establish and strengthen the links between academia and a wide community of (interaction) design practitioners.
We hope many of you decide to participate.
Best regards,

Call for Proposals for Interaction 23
Allegra, Ciao, Salut and Grüezi,
Greetings from Switzerland, the land where Grid systems, Helvetica and melted cheese are at home. And exactly because solid defining factors of the past are icons around the world, we invite you to join us in (re)defining the power of design in our Interaction 23 conference.
Interaction 23 is a call – a call to formulate essential design positions about how we want to (re)define life across the planet. The inevitable transformations of personal lives and social structures have gathered momentum.
To be defined/designed…
The last two years saw the redefinition of collaborative efforts, workplace culture and collaboration in general. Moving into the era of ‘hybrid everything’, Interaction 23 - the conference to be defined by you - will support participants joining physically and virtually from all over the world. We seek talks, panels, sessions, and workshops by individuals from all walks of life, in any language, anywhere in the world.
What can be redefined? What must be redesigned?
Interaction design contributes to (re)designing the role of technology in perpetuating social and environmental justice and injustice, but also has much to learn from other disciplines. That’s why we’re inviting submissions from fields working with people, design, environment, and technology. We are looking for speakers offering diverse perspectives, specific case studies, visions or hands-on design approaches in one of the areas to be (re)defined by design:
* design decision-making processes
* decentralisation for the better
* create new work experiences
* the environmental impact of technology
* estabslishing design ethics
* (re)defined by design

* Workshop: during SPLASH 2022 (Mon 5 - Sat 10 December 2022), to be determined
*** Format ***
The actual format of PAINT will depend on it being held hybrid or online. ___Remote participation will be ensured.___
We plan to organize the workshop as a one-day workshop (or up to two days with shorter slots if online) as a combination of short presentations and demos combined with structured feedback inspired by the Writer’s Workshop format:
* Participants are expected to have visited the materials beforehand.
* A moderator leads and directs the discussion.
* We review the pieces and their ideas one at a time.
* In general, the authors whose work is under review are silent.
* When discussing form, the following kinds of questions will be asked:
- What did you gather / understand from the piece?
- What aspects of the piece worked well to present the ideas?
- What aspects need improvement? (These comments must be in the form of suggestions, not criticisms.)
* When discussing the ideas, the following kinds of questions will be asked:
- What are the ideas?
- Which ideas seem like good ones (and why)?
- Which ideas need improvement or elimination? (Make positive suggestions when you can.)
* At the end the authors ask questions of the group.
This is the basic format, but we adjust the flow according to the needs of the group and the way the discussion is going. It is formal to ensure all the important points are covered.
For more information about the workshop format, please have a look at Richard P. Gabriel’s book “Writers’ Workshops & the World of Making Things” (http://dreamsongs.com/Files/WritersWorkshopTypeset.pdf).
*** Types of Submissions ***
PAINT welcomes two types of contributions:
* Research papers should present new, previously unpublished research in one or more of the topics described above. Six to eight pages might be considered a good target for the contributions expected at PAINT. However, there is no page limit on submitted papers. As a general rule, the number of pages should match the size of the contribution. It is the responsibility of the authors to keep the reviewers interested and motivated to read the paper. Reviewers are under no obligation to read all or even a substantial portion of a paper if they do not find the initial part of it interesting. Papers must be prepared in LaTeX, adhering to the ACM format available at http://sigplan.org/Resources/Author/#acmart-format using the sigplan option.
* Demos show early implementations of novel and compelling tools, techniques, devices, and systems. Submissions should be in the form of a video no longer than 5 minutes that participants can watch prior to the workshop and then discuss.
Papers and demos are to be submitted via EasyChair (https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=paint22).
*** Publication ***
Accepted papers will be published in the ACM Digital Library.
(To be confirmed: Proceedings will be post-workshop to give authors the opportunity to incorporate feedback obtained at the workshop.)
AUTHORS TAKE NOTE: The official publication date is the date the proceedings are made available in the ACM Digital Library. This date may be up to two weeks before the first day of your conference. The official publication date affects the deadline for any patent filings related to published work.
