Dear scholar,
to mark the *tenth anniversary* of ASLERD <https://www.aslerd.org/>,
SLERD 2025 <https://slerd.org/> will feature an open panel to offer a
moment of reflection and projection—retracing key milestones in the
evolution of Smart Learning Ecosystems (SLEs) and engaging with future
challenges and opportunities.
Topics will include the development of a participatory evaluation
culture and related analytics as a basis for SLEs accountability and
shared educational social responsibility; the “learning by being”
paradigma, inspired and sustained by the design thinking; and the
creation of inclusive, phygital learning spaces. In particular, the
panel will highlight the importance of using technology — especially
AI-based applications — with awareness and responsibility, ensuring
access as a right rather than a cause of new digital divides.The
conversation will also spotlight initiatives such as the Student Design
Contest, which exemplify how to support the development of future
generations in concrete ways.
The open panel can be *freely *attended even by those who are not
registered to the conference.

We encourage the submission of original contributions, investigating how
Recommender Systems can contribute to a more sustainable and responsible
technology ecosystem, aligning with the broader goals of achieving
economic, social, and environmental sustainability. In particular, authors
can submit:
(A) Full papers (max. 12 + references - Springer LLNCS format);
(B) Reproducibility papers (max. 12 + references - Springer LLNCS format);
(C) Short papers (max 6 pages + references - Springer LLNCS format);

abstracts. This type of informal submission will be editorially reviewed by

The 31st Annual ACM Conference on Intelligent User Interfaces (IUI 2026)

We are pleased to invite proposals for workshops and tutorials to be held in conjunction with
the 31st International ACM Conference on Intelligent User Interfaces (ACM IUI 2026), Paphos,
Cyprus.
Workshops aim to provide a venue for presenting research on emerging or specialized topics
of interest and to offer an informal forum for discussing research questions and challenges.
Potential workshop topics should be related to the general theme of the conference
(“Where HCI meets AI”).
Tutorials aim to provide fundamental knowledge and experience on topics related to intelligent
user interfaces and the intersection between Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Artificial
Intelligence (AI).
We welcome proposals for a wide range of *full-day* or *half-day* workshops and tutorial
formats and activities, including but not limited to:
• Mini Conferences: Workshops that focus on a specific topic and may have their own paper
submission and review processes.
• Interactive Formats: Workshops that encourage active participation and hands-on
experiences through break-out sessions or group work to explore specific topics. They may
have their own paper submission and review process or target a report summarizing the
discussions and outcomes.
• Emerging Work Sessions: Workshops that foster discussion around emerging ideas.
Organizers may raise specific topics and invite position papers, late-breaking results, or
extended abstracts.
• Project-Centric Formats: Workshops tied closely to a specific existing large-scale funded
project(e.g., NSF, EU) with the goal to engage a broader community.
• Interactive Competitions: Formats that invite individuals and teams to participate in
challenges or hackathons on selected topics relevant to IUI.
• Tutorials: Sessions that provide a structured instruction on topics aligned with the conference
theme, such as HCI methods, AI techniques, methodological frameworks, or tools for building
intelligent user interfaces.
Review and Oversight by Workshop and Tutorial Chairs
Proposals will be reviewed and evaluated by the Workshop and Tutorial Chairs. It is possible
that workshops may be cancelled, shortened, merged, or restructured if there are insufficient
submissions.
Workshop and Tutorial summaries will be included in the ACM Digital Library for ACM IUI 2026.
We will also publish joint workshop proceedings for accepted workshop submissions (through
CEUR or a similar venue).
Responsibilities of Workshop and Tutorial Organizers
• Coordinate the Call for Papers, including solicitation, submission handling, and peer review
process.
• Create and maintain a dedicated website with Workshop or Tutorial information. The IUI
Website 2026 will link to this page.
• Prepare and communicate Call for Participation, targeting both IUI and broader relevant
communities (e.g., via mailing lists, social media, newsgroups, or offline events)
• Facilitate the planned activities, including paper presentations, discussions, and/or
interactive elements.
• Submit a workshop or tutorial summary for inclusion in the ACM Digital Library.
• Collect camera-ready papers and author agreements from workshop participants for the joint
workshop proceedings (CEUR or similar).
Note that for the joint proceedings (CEUR or similar), submissions should be peer-reviewed
and will need to meet publishers’ guidelines. CEUR, for example, requires a 5-page minimum
per contribution. Note that not all workshop and tutorial formats listed above may meet these
requirements, and we may not be able to include them.
IUI 2026 is an in-person event, and we expect workshop organizers to attend, allowing the
workshop to be conducted on-site. One author per paper is expected to attend in person to
present the work.
Proposal Format
Workshop or tutorial proposals should be a maximum of four pages long (single-column
format). Prepare your submission using the latest templates: Word Submission Template
(https://authors.acm.org/binaries/content/assets/publications/taps/acm_submi…),
or the LaTex Template
(https://authors.acm.org/proceedings/production-information/preparing-your-a…).
For Latex, please use “\documentclass[manuscript,review]{acmart}”.
The proposals should be organized as follows:
• Name and title: A one-word acronym and a full title. Please indicate “(Workshop)” or
“(Tutorial)” after the title, as appropriate.
• Abstract: A brief summary of the workshop or tutorial.
• Description of workshop or tutorial topic: Should discuss the relevance of the proposed
topic to IUI and its interest for the IUI 2026 audience. Include a concise discussion of why this
workshop or tutorial is particularly relevant for the intended audience and how it will
complement and enhance topics covered at the main conference.
• Previous history: List of previous workshops or tutorials on this topic, including the
conferences that hosted them and the number of participants. If available, report on past
editions of the workshop (including URLs), along with a brief statement of the workshop series
(e.g., covering topics, number of paper submissions, and participants), as well as post-
workshop publications over the years and acceptance statistics. If this is the first edition of the
workshop, describe how it differs from others on similar topics (e.g., by including conference
names and years).
• Organizer(s): Names, affiliations, emails, and web pages of the organizer(s). Provide a brief
description of the background of the organizer(s). Strong proposals normally include organizers
who bring differing perspectives on the topic and are actively connected to the communities of

conference based on review transfer; to use this option, authors are
invited to submit a request after rejection. We will then make a decision
based on the reviews written for the main conference, which will be made

SUBMISSIONS

We accept the following submissions:
(A) Regular papers (10-12 pages + references - single-column CEURART style)
(B) Position, short papers and Demos (5-9 pages + references -
single-column CEURART style);
(C) Manifestations of interest (max 2 pages including a bio of the
participant and a brief statement about why they are interest in the
workshop)

All papers must be in English and they must be formatted using the
single-column CEURART style format.
Submitted papers will be evaluated by two members of the Program Committee
through a single blind review process. We aim to publish all accepted
regular, short, position papers and demos(A, B) in CEUR WS Proceedings as a
joint volume.
We will also consider relevant papers which were rejected from the main
conference based on review transfer; to use this option, authors are
invited to submit a request after rejection. We will then make a decision
based on the reviews written for the main conference, which will be made
available to us in anonymized form.
At least one author of each accepted paper must register for the workshop
by the main conference registration deadline.
Papers must be submitted on EasyChair.

ABSTRACT
=========
Digital games have become one of the most influential forms of
entertainment and interactive media, extending their impact beyond leisure
into education, health, behavior change, and more. Artificial Intelligence
(AI) is playing an increasingly vital role in shaping these experiences,
enabling adaptive gameplay, dynamic content generation, and the creation of
intelligent non-player characters. AI not only enhances player immersion
but also expands the possibilities for storytelling, accessibility, and
personalized experiences.
The AI4HGI workshop aims to explore the evolving role of AI in human-game
interaction by addressing key research questions, including:
* How AI can enhance player immersion and engagement in digital games?
* How can AI contribute to adaptive storytelling and personalized player
experiences?
* How can AI systems balance computational efficiency with the complexity
of game interactions?
* How can generative AI impact game design and creativity?
* How should ethical considerations such as transparency, fairness, and
data privacy be addressed in AI-driven game development?
In answering these questions, the AI4HGI workshop aims to provide a
platform for researchers to discuss innovative solutions, share insights,
and identify new research directions. By fostering dialogue at the
intersection of AI and game development, the workshop seeks to advance the
field and contribute to shaping the next generation of intelligent and
interactive digital experiences.

***Scope***
Citizen Science (CS) is a research approach in which scientists and everyday people collaborate to address a research problem. Advancements in digital technologies have significantly expanded the reach of CS by enabling large-scale data collection and collaboration. In addition to its scientific benefits, CS enhances participants' science literacy, fosters public engagement, and promotes collaborative problem-solving. Despite this being true, we believe that the true potential of CS has not yet been fully explored as a collaborative practice for transformative change.
With this in mind, we planned a one-day workshop as a forum for critical discussions and reflections on the role of HCI researchers, designers, and practitioners in designing CS-empowered interactive systems for increasing awareness about social good and societal issues and promoting concrete actions and behavioural change, from data to sustainable futures.
***Submissions***
Participants interested in joining the workshop can submit either a late-breaking work abstract/short paper (2 to 4 pages, plus references, using the ACM single-column template) or a motivation statement (1–2 pages, including references, using the ACM single-column template). The paper should include the authors' names.
To submit your contribution, simply send an email to: catia.prandi(a)unibo.it, with the Subject: “CS DIS workshop submission" by June 10 (AoE). You will receive an answer by June 16.
***Workshop format***
A one-day workshop where participants will have the possibility to reflect on and discuss the main open challenges still affecting the design of CS-empowered interactive systems, and to prototype, exploiting data physicalization and co-design, solutions that focus on a specific real-world challenge as presented by experts of the Madeira Island that offers a unique ecosystem to spark reflections on the interplay between sustainability, technology and CS.
As for the main conference, the workshop will take place as a full in-person event.

Workshop on Age-Inclusive Interfaces: Emerging Mobile, Conversational, and
Generative AI to Support Interactions across the Life Span (

This multidisciplinary workshop aims to tackle the significant gaps in
theoretical frameworks, methodological approaches, and exploration of new
paradigms within the research and design of age-inclusive Mobile,
Hands-Free, Conversational User Interfaces, especially those leveraging
recent advances in Generative AI and Large Language Models. We also aim to
build research capacity by bringing together researchers and practitioners
across several disciplines and industries who are actively working or
having interest toward understanding the need and role of such interfaces
in supporting interactions across the life (e.g. older adults,
inter-generational interactions.)
We invite researchers from various fields to present their work on and
collectively engage in synthesizing and collating findings from different
disciplines, and to discuss barriers and approaches to designing
age-inclusive CUIs that are usable, adoptable, and culturally relevant.
Given the nascent phase of this community, and our goal of encouraging a
grassroots approach to defining this space, we welcome position papers,
short research papers, or short expressions of interest relevant to the
broad space of our workshop.
There is no format for the expression of interest - those wishing to
participate in the workshop without a submitted paper should simply contact
the organizers via email indicating through a short paragraph their prior
experience and/or interest as relevant to the workshop, alongside their
professional website or scholar page. We welcome position papers, short
research papers, and expressions of interest along the focus areas
described earlier, as well as open topics suggested by potential attendees
(given the nascent phase of this community, and our goal of encouraging a
grassroots approach to defining this space).
For those interested in submitting a formal paper, we welcome short papers
describing e.g. a research study, a novel system, a new theoretical
contribution, or position papers that highlight new or ongoing challenges
in the field. Submitted papers will be lightly reviewed by the organizing
committee within a week of the submission (there is no formal deadline).
Accepted papers will be posted on the workshop website. We recommend papers
to be no more than 4 pages long, following the CHI Extended Abstract
format).
For submitting formal papers or an expression of interest, please email at

subject line.
Submissions will be reviewed according to: fit with the workshop topic, and
potential to contribute to the workshop goals. Alternate submission
arrangements may be possible (such as the showcasing of papers previously
accepted at other conferences).
Diversity and Inclusion Considerations
We want to bring together researchers and experts across the globe from HCI
(particularly focused on mobile and conversational design), Computer
Science (e.g., voice and language processing), Sociology (Gerontology), and
age-inclusive computing. We will welcome research, practitioners from both
industry and academia, as well as representative users, ensuring a diverse
attendance. We will particularly welcome contributions from students and
early career researchers (acknowledging the role conference workshop play
in supporting the training and career development needs of these
attendees), as well as contributions highlighting the intersectional
aspects of our research space, e.g. focusing on dimensions such as gender,
socio-economic background, race, etc. as factors that are integral to the
aging process.
